Why This Role Matters

We’re seeking a driven, entrepreneurial Director of Operations to lead a business group and drive operational excellence. This role owns and executes policies, sets the standard for best practices and core values, and drives business unit success toward utilization, revenue, and growth goals. You’ll also help standardize practices across the department and company.

How You'll Contribute

Leadership

  • Lead, train, mentor, and develop team members (technical + PM + professional growth)

  • Serve as PM on select projects and meet individual utilization expectations

  • Hold monthly 1:1s with direct reports using a standardized tool

  • Oversee Business Operations Specialist (contracts updates, internal contract meetings, client outreach)

  • Participate in company-wide initiatives as needed

Operations

  • Coordinate delivery of both quick-turn and complex, long-cycle projects

  • Co-lead scheduling and resource planning to hit utilization and revenue targets

  • Review Consultant/Specialist deliverables for quality, consistency, compliance, and on-time delivery

  • Manage weekly 2-Week Lookahead to ensure efficient staffing and deployment

  • Provide staffing availability and technical input for proposals with Market Development

  • Track performance metrics and provide periodic progress reporting

  • Create and submit invoices on accounting timelines

  • Review A/R and support client outreach for payment as needed

  • Maintain high-touch client engagement on strategic or challenging projects

  • Build and strengthen relationships with new and existing clients

Strategy

  • Anticipate client, market, and industry changes and develop mitigation/optimization plans

  • Generate revenue projections and manage resources, schedules, and backlog

  • Provide updates biweekly in Ops-huddles

  • Own department reporting for Monthly Town Hall updates

  • Lead monthly progress tracking meetings (goals + staffing levels)

  • Co-lead annual planning: revenue/margin targets, service line expansion, resources/training, and team development

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Architecture-related discipline

  • 8+ years experience in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or Project Management (design, construction, or forensics)

  • 2+ years of business unit leadership, including:

    • Staff management

    • Revenue ownership

    • Growth strategy

    • Hiring/firing

    • Business development

  • PE or AIA license preferred

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end design & construction processes

  • Practical understanding of building structures + ability to read/interpret drawings

  • Strong coaching/mentorship skills (and openness to receiving coaching)

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build credibility with clients and teams

  • High financial acumen, strong judgment, and comfort managing competing priorities

  • Strong attention to detail, consistency, and commitment to quality
