Published

Location: On Site in Dayton, OH, United States

Employment type: Full-time

Salary: $105,000 per year

Why This Role Matters

MissionHires is partnering with a respected, family-oriented Specialty Mechanical Contractor to hire a field-first Safety Manager for commercial mechanical construction projects across Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Indiana. This visible, high-impact role spends ~70% in the field leading site safety, mentoring crews, driving compliance, and owning the safety program for ~150 field employees across HVAC, chillers, process piping, and Design-Build MEP projects in Healthcare, Education, Industrial, and Municipal sectors. The Safety Manager will advise executives, lead the Safety Committee, conduct investigations and training, and serve as the external liaison to regulators and emergency responders. Compensation is $90,000–$105,000 base plus 5–8% bonus, company truck, tools, comprehensive benefits, and no overnight travel.

How You'll Contribute

  • Lead field-first safety presence across regional job sites (approx. 70% field time) to identify hazards, coach behaviors, and stop unsafe work when needed
  • Conduct routine site inspections and safety audits to ensure OSHA compliance and company standards
  • Own incident investigations, perform root-cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and maintain documentation
  • Partner with HR on Transitional/Return-to-Work programs and maintain accurate records
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on safety training and toolbox talks; manage Hazard Communication Program
  • Advise executive leadership, chair/lead the Safety Committee, and serve as the face of safety for ~150 field employees
  • Oversee PPE and safety equipment readiness; recommend, order, and verify compliance of tools and machinery
  • Act as point of contact for OSHA, fire departments, emergency response teams, and participate in trade group events
  • Foster a mentorship-driven, trust-based culture—coaching crews and leaders rather than acting as a ‘safety cop’
  • Utilize regional offices in Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus for reporting and coordination

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • 7+ years of progressive safety experience in commercial construction (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, electrical, drywall, masonry, or related trades)
  • 3+ years in a leadership capacity (Foreman, Leader, Manager, Supervisor) with proven influence in the field
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and enforce standards
  • OSHA 500 or 501 (Outreach Trainer) and OSHA 510 (Construction) or OSHA 511 (General Industry); 500-series preferred
  • CHST or CSP preferred (not required)
  • Comfortable with frequent regional driving across multiple job sites weekly; no overnight travel required
  • Stable career history demonstrating long-term success and commitment to teams and projects
  • Ability to conduct investigations, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Experience delivering hands-on safety training and managing Hazard Communication programs
  • Availability Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM; willingness to be highly visible and active on job sites
  • Eligible to work regionally (OH, IN, KY); relocation considered for neighboring states
