Why This Role Matters

MissionHires is seeking a California-licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect to serve as Project Director, leading hands-on forensic investigations, condition assessments, repair design, and construction observations. This role interfaces with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams, delivers high-quality technical analyses and reports, mentors junior staff, and contributes to BIM and construction documentation. On-site field work, travel, and work at heights and in varied outdoor conditions are required.

How You'll Contribute

  • Perform hands-on forensic investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations, including documenting distress and collecting test samples
  • Conduct field testing and gather data using digital instrumentation and imaging tools
  • Research construction documents (modern and historic), governing codes, and design guidelines to support analysis, problem-solving, and repair design
  • Complete analyses using a combination of analysis software applications and hand calculations
  • Assist with Building Information Modeling (Autodesk Revit) and prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final deliverables
  • Produce structural and architectural construction drawings, specifications, written reports, and presentations
  • Interface with project teams, clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines
  • Assume responsibility for key project aspects and supervise/mentor junior staff during field and office tasks
  • Support construction observations and quality assurance during implementation of repairs
  • Maintain accurate field records, photographs, test data, and documentation for reporting

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Registered Architect or Licensed Civil/Structural Engineer in California
  • 3–10 years of experience in building envelope design, civil design, and/or structural design
  • Ability to work daily in the Home Office located in a satellite office
  • Proven technical writing ability and strong verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in or enthusiastic to learn Autodesk Revit
  • Willingness to take on new and unexpected challenges
  • Physical ability to supervise and mentor junior staff during field investigations
  • Ability to attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites
  • Ability to perform inspections of buildings and structures visually and with instruments
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in outdoor temperature extremes and at heights
  • Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
  • Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screens
  • Ability to clearly record data and write report passages and correspondence
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Understanding of, and adherence to, safety training for workplace and construction hazards
  • Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other PPE
  • Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
  • Valid US Driver’s License and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
