We are working with a charter school system to find qualified special education teachers to work in Southgate, MI.

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring instructional programs for students with special needs in compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations.

How You'll Contribute

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for each student, in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  2. Assess students' skills and abilities to determine their needs and to develop appropriate teaching plans.
  3. Collaborate with general education teachers, school administrators, and other school staff to integrate students into the general education environment when appropriate.
  4. Employ specialized teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of each student.
  5. Create a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes self-reliance, problem-solving skills, and social skills.
  6. Communicate regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss the student's progress and needs.
  7. Stay up-to-date with changes and developments in special education by attending professional development courses, reading relevant literature, and participating in local and state special education groups.

What Makes You a Great Fit

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  2. Valid Michigan Special Education Teacher certification.
  3. Minimum of 2-3 years of teaching experience in Special Education, preferably in a charter school setting.
  4. Knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies.
  5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community members.
  7. Proficiency in using educational technology and software.
