MissionHires is hiring a fully remote Payroll Manager on behalf of a rapidly scaling, consumer-driven brand that’s bringing payroll in-house for the first time. You’ll own and elevate end-to-end payroll operations for 2,000+ multi-state employees, build scalable processes and controls, ensure airtight compliance, and partner closely with HR, Finance, and Operations to deliver timely, accurate payroll in a high-growth, high-volume environment.

How You'll Contribute

  • Lead and execute the full biweekly payroll cycle across multiple entities and states for 2,000+ employees
  • Process, validate, and reconcile payroll data including earnings, deductions, benefits, and tax treatments
  • Ensure accurate integration of timekeeping data and variable compensation (tips, incentives, bonuses)
  • Deliver on-time, accurate payroll with strong quality checks and zero surprises
  • Manage high-volume payroll across hourly and salaried workforces in a multi-location environment
  • Oversee multi-state payroll tax filings, payments, and issue resolution
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, including minimum wage and tip regulations
  • Perform detailed audits and reconciliations (gross-to-net, benefits, GL tie-outs)
  • Partner with Accounting on month-end close, payroll accruals, and reporting
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies proactively
  • Serve as internal expert on payroll and timekeeping platforms; drive automation and process improvements
  • Design scalable workflows, internal controls, and documentation as the company grows
  • Partner with HR on employee lifecycle events and compensation changes
  • Provide leadership and operations teams with insights and reporting on labor costs and payroll trends
  • Support the seamless transition from an outsourced payroll model to in-house ownership

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field
  • 5+ years of payroll experience in high-volume, multi-state environments
  • Hands-on experience supporting 1,000+ employees across multiple states
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance and wage and hour regulations
  • Proficiency with modern payroll and timekeeping systems and integrations
  • Proven ability to perform payroll audits, reconciliations, and GL tie-outs
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with HR, Finance/Accounting, and Operations
  • Demonstrated track record improving processes, automation, and internal controls
  • Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work fully remotely with reliable high-speed internet and personal laptop
