Patent Attorney or Patent Agent - Rochester, New York

A well-regarded law firm in upstate New York is seeking a skilled Patent Attorney or Patent Agent to join their Intellectual Property team in either Rochester or Buffalo. This role is ideal for professionals with 2-6 years of patent prosecution experience and a technical background in optics, physics, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering. The position involves working collaboratively on a diverse client base and contributing 1,800 billable hours annually.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform patent prosecution matters for clients across various technical fields.
• Work closely with clients and internal team members to develop and protect intellectual property.
• Analyze technical disclosures and draft patent applications and responses to office actions.
• Communicate complex technical and legal concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
• Meet annual billable hour expectation of approximately 1,800 hours.

Qualifications:

• Must be admitted to the New York State Bar, or willing to gain admission.
• 2-6 years of patent prosecution experience.
• Technical background in optics, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or aerospace engineering.
• Candidates relocating from out of state may be temporarily hired as a Law Clerk while awaiting bar admission.
• Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and client service skills.
• Writing samples are preferred upon submission, but not mandatory for this non-litigation role.
