Why This Role Matters

MissionHires is seeking a Municipal Engineer to lead planning, design, and construction oversight of municipal water and wastewater projects. You will manage scope, schedule, and budget; prepare engineering documents and specifications; coordinate approvals with agencies and clients; mentor staff; and drive business development to grow our Municipal Group in Helena, MT.

How You'll Contribute

  • Oversee and manage municipal projects, meeting scope, time, and budget goals
  • Plan, design, and administer construction for municipal infrastructure projects
  • Prepare construction documents, technical specifications, and design packages
  • Perform moderately complex engineering computations using conventional practices
  • Use CAD and engineering/design software to create engineering documents
  • Write technical reports, specifications, and client/agency correspondence
  • Apply company standards and best practices across project work
  • Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and consultants to secure design inputs and approvals
  • Provide construction oversight/administration and resolve field issues
  • Mentor staff on client care, business development, and technical delivery
  • Exercise sound discretion and judgment in all work tasks and decisions
  • Lead business development: proposal development, interviews, and presentations
  • Collaborate with firmwide Municipal Groups and Senior Management to expand client base and ensure successful project delivery
  • Deliver exceptional service to existing clients while managing internal technical teams to profitable outcomes

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • BS/BA in Engineering or related field; minimum 7+ years of experience (10+ years preferred with municipal water/wastewater solutions)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Montana, or ability to obtain within six months
  • Significant experience designing water treatment/distribution and wastewater treatment/collection systems
  • Proven track record delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and internal technical resources
  • Demonstrated success in marketing, client relationship building, and securing new work
  • Active involvement in industry-affiliated professional organizations
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; provide constructive feedback and direction
  • Excellent work ethic and comprehensive understanding of engineering principles
  • Proficiency with computer-assisted engineering and design software (e.g., CAD)
  • Strong written communication skills for specifications, reports, and stakeholder correspondence
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
