The Behavior and Academic Aide provides behavior support and instruction to individuals or groups of students in a classroom setting or during lunch/recess and extracurricular activities. The Behavior and Academic Aide works under the direction of a school professional educator and supervisor who holds ultimate responsibility for the outcomes of the instructional program. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Assist in creating a safe and positive learning environment for students with emotional and/or behavioral issues.
Work cooperatively with other staff to serve the needs of the student.
Become familiar with the direct instruction method of teaching.
Assist children in adhering to classroom schedule and assignments.
Lead or co-lead instructional groups as assigned.
Implement reward and behavior management systems utilized in the classroom.
Monitor and chart behaviors and write reports.
Assist in preparing materials.
Monitor lunch, playground, and transportation areas as assigned by the supervisor.
Attend staff meetings and other training.
Perform other duties assigned.
